An award-winning journalist and editor based in Charleston, S.C., I have three decades of experience in newspapers, magazines, and online publications.

As of September 2021, I took on a full-time role as Smart Home writer for The Verge. I also work as Home Editor for Charleston Magazine and editor of SiP Magazine, Previously, I was a freelance writer and editor for ten years, including roles as Smart Home Writer for The New York Times’ Wirecutter, Contributing Editor at Dwell Magazine, Reviews Writer for The Ambient, and Contributing Editor at Island Eye News and Island Connection newspapers, based in Charleston, S.C. I also regularly contributed to Wired UK, BBC Science Focus Magazine, and U.S. News & World Report, among others.

I started my career on London’s Fleet Street with The Daily Telegraph, moving stateside in 2003, where I worked in local journalism as a writer and editor in Sun Valley, Idaho, for a decade before going freelance full-time in 2012.

My work is primarily focused on smart home technology, consumer tech, architecture and home design, “green” living and lifestyle journalism.
