The Sun Valley Guide magazine is finally the bride, having won a first-place MAGGIE Award last month after two years as the bridesmaid in an editorial competition measuring the best of the West in magazine journalism.

The winning magazine was from Winter 2010-11, a celebration of Sun Valley's 75th ski season. The cover featured the re-creation of an iconic photo of a skier that was used to market Sun Valley in 1936.

The Guide won in the category of magazines published three times a year. The Guide was a MAGGIE finalist in 2010 and an article on wolves was a finalist in 2009.

For more than 59 years, the Western Publishing Association has bestowed awards of excellence to work deemed "the best in the West" in a wide variety of publishing categories.

Guide Publisher Pam Morris said that as one of the 81 winners out of 1,100 entries this year, "we are busting our buttons" at the recognition.

"We're proud of the peak efforts by everyone who works on and contributes to the Sun Valley Guide," she said. "Special congratulations are due to Editor Jennifer Tuohy and Art Director Tony Barriatua, who regularly push the envelope in creativity, design and writing that is part of every issue."
